We know there is a lot of confusion about this Friday, June 28 as 10 month employees have typically not worked past the admin day on the school calendar as the schools are closed.
Records of Employment will be issued directly to Service Canada for all ten month and casual employees after the final pay is processed. Please read the SchoolDistrictDistrict-InfosheetSupportStaffBulletin-2024 for more information.

CUPE BC offers the Aubrey Burton/Reg Ford Memorial Scholarship annually to CUPE members, their spouses or their children. Four scholarships valued at $500 each are awarded to students entering their first year of Post-Secondary education.
The scholarship was created in honour of two CUPE activists, Aubrey Burton and Reg Ford.

What is a grievance?
A grievance is a violation of the employee’s rights on the job – whether under the collective agreement or under legislation. Not all complaints are grievances. They need to clearly violate either the contract or the law.

Throughout the 19th century, education was a luxury and not a right. Most workers could not read or write and very few written records documenting their struggles and conditions exist today. The records we do have, however, show a big division between skilled (or “trade”) workers and unskilled workers. An unskilled worker usually could not earn enough money to house and feed a family.
