Bargaining – What’s Happening Now?
Our collective agreement expires at the end of June and our local bargaining will begin once provincial bargaining is done. We anticipate that we will be at the table with the employer either late in this school year or early in the next and will be bargaining the terms of the collective agreement.
The local bargaining committee (Janet Pierce, Susan Kosinec, Shaun Placsko, Kathy Centrone, Robin Sheppard, Michelle Bennett, and Anne Cavicchi) is already at work getting ready. We are in training this week on the bargaining process so that we can represent all of you.
In the coming months, we will be sending out more information, asking questions, and conducting surveys about what you would like to see and to get the best possible contract for all of us.
What is Provincial Bargaining?
The Provincial CUPE K-12 team negotiates the money items – things like wages and some benefits. Provincial bargaining hasn’t started yet and we do not know how long it will take.
The survey that was sent out in December was from the provincial team and reflected the issues that are bargained provincially.
If you have any questions about bargaining, please reach out to the members of your bargaining committee. Attending our union meetings, checking the CUPE boards at your worksite, and signing up to our contact list and newsletter are also great ways to stay informed.
